Start With the Audience, Not the Ad
One mistake I see all the time is owners getting excited about creating videos, graphics, and ad copy before they’ve verified that a large enough audience actually exists.
Before you spend time creating content, make sure Facebook can target the audience you’re trying to reach.
In this coaching conversation, we discussed targeting racket sport athletes. The first question wasn’t what the ad should say. The first question was whether there were enough pickleball, tennis, and racket sport enthusiasts in the area to even run the campaign effectively.
That’s a simple step, but it can save you a tremendous amount of wasted effort.

What I’ve found is that many people dealing with pain don’t want another PDF.
They want a solution, and they’re ready to pick up the phone right away to find it.
If someone has shoulder pain that’s keeping them off the pickleball court, they’re often much more interested in a discounted evaluation, injury screen, or limited-time offer than a free educational download. That’s a much shorter path from seeing the ad to becoming a patient.

Testing Beats Guessing
Many practice owners create one ad or one Ad Set and hope it works.
A better approach is to let the platform tell you what’s working.
In the episode, I recommend testing multiple versions of ad copy along with multiple creative options. The goal isn’t to predict the winner. The goal is to create a few reasonable options and let the algorithm work you!
This mindset shift is incredibly important because marketing becomes much less emotional when you view it as a testing process instead of a pass-or-fail event.
Most People Quit Too Early
Too many owners expect a campaign to prove itself in a few weeks. When results aren’t immediate, they assume Facebook ads don’t work.
The reality is that successful paid advertising usually requires testing, tweaking, learning, and refining over time. Even campaigns that perform extremely well eventually cool off and need to be refreshed. That’s normal.
When I launch a campaign, I don’t do so as a one-month experiment. I evaluate it as a marketing channel I’m willing to learn and improve over several months.
That’s the mindset that gives you a real chance of finding a winner.
The Final Word
The biggest lesson from this episode is that successful advertising is rarely about finding the perfect ad. It’s about building a repeatable process for testing audiences, offers, messaging, and creatives until you find combinations that consistently work to produce high quality cash-pay leads.
The owners who struggle with paid advertising often treat it like a lottery ticket. The owners who succeed treat it like a skill. They collect data, make adjustments, stay patient, and continue improving.
