1. From Overworked Orthopedic PT to Scoliosis Specialist
Danielle spent 15 years in outpatient orthopedics, seeing 16–20 patients a day under the insurance grind. She loved her patients—but she was burning out fast.
Then came the turning point: a series of spine patients with scoliosis that didn’t respond to standard orthopedic protocols.
She started researching and discovered the Schroth Method, a highly specialized approach to scoliosis care that most PTs had never even heard of.
“It was humbling,” she said. “At 15 years in, I thought I could manage anything that walked through the door—until I met scoliosis.”
That realization sparked a career shift. She dove deep into training, realized how few specialists existed, and decided to build her practice around this underserved population.
She started small—first out of her home, then her garage, then a small rented townhouse.
Today, Scolio Austin operates out of a 2,200 sq. ft. clinic, serving patients across Texas and beyond.
2. The Marketing Strategy That Still Works (Even 10 Years Later)
You might expect a marketing-heavy playbook—but Danielle’s success started with one key move: a great website.
“I was surprised how many PTs still don’t invest in their website,” she shared.
She focused on:
- Building a strong SEO foundation
- Answering patients’ most common questions right on the site
- Making her niche crystal clear (“Scoliosis and Spine Specialist – Austin, TX”)
That visibility did the heavy lifting. Patients started finding her online, and her schedule filled through Google searches, parent groups, and word-of-mouth referrals.
She also learned to communicate with physicians differently.
When a doctor wouldn’t meet with her, she made sure her evaluation reports were so detailed, visual, and informative that they spoke for themselves.
“I’d send photos, a clear outline, and a one-page summary on what Schroth therapy is. After the 10th or 12th report, they started calling me.”
Eventually, physicians began inviting her to lunch to learn more about her methods.
3. Lessons Learned from a Decade in a Cash-Based Niche
After a decade in her niche, Danielle shared a few hard-earned lessons for anyone building their own:
- Don’t try to do everything.
“I bought reformers, took bone-density courses, tried to add everything—and realized there’s still only so much time in a day.” - Collaborate instead of overextending.
“Be good at what you’re good at, and build relationships with those who complement what you do.” - Don’t underestimate simple content.
Danielle’s top-performing Instagram posts weren’t complex clinical breakdowns—they were simple, relatable tips (“How to use heat and ice”) and collaborations with other experts, like her joint post with a California bone-density specialist.That collaboration alone expanded her reach nationwide and brought in new patient inquiries. - Stay focused and stay findable.
“You have to keep an eye on your SEO, your ads, your online presence. People are searching—you just have to be easy to find.”
