- Pricing advice for those starting a cash practice.
- How she varies her schedule based on patient complexity.

- Why she felt a cash-based practice would be viable for her and in her area.
- The things she learned from her first experience employing another PT, and what she will do differently next time.
- Her biggest challenges as she started out, and her biggest ongoing challenges.

Excellent sucess story, great example for all of us transitioning into cash base model. Learned a lot. Thanks Jarod for allowing this podcasts.
You are very welcome, Liliana. Thanks so much for the comment and kind words
I have enjoyed this podcast. It is interesting to listen to others go through the same questions and fears that I did, 31 years ago when I started my practice. I have gone from a full insurance based practice to a hybrid of insurance and cash. I have also considered a mentoring type set up for those who want to spend one on one time to polish their manual and dry needling skills. Thanks. Tracey Adler, DPT, OCS, CMTPT
31 years!! That’s awesome. We need to get YOU on the podcast sometime 🙂
I would be happy to do a podcast.
Great. I’ll reach out later this summer when I’m scheduling future episodes
Thanks for the positive comments on here and those received on Facebook and Twitter! It’s so great to see so many therapists out there excited to start or grow cash PT businesses. I’m happy to answer questions. I appreciate the opportunity to share this, Jarod. Your website is great!
Tracy
Sounds like a plan. Take care.Tracey
Just scheduled my first patient in my cash-based practice opening soon!!!
Can’t thank you enough Jarod!!!
This was an awesome podcast covering many areas of struggle for those who are trained as clinicians, but not business people.
Tracy, LOVE your spirit of stubbornness and drive to learn–sounds like me… ;_)
WOOOHOOO! I’ve had a lot of new practice owners tell me similar things, and it will absolutely never get old. Huge congratulations, Beth, and best of luck moving forward. I’m honored to be part of your journey.
That’s so awesome, Beth! Congrats and good luck!! You will go through lots of highs…and when you hit a bump in the road (we all do as business owners), that stubbornness and positive spirit will help guide you through!

Jarod/Tracy,
Awesome podcast and interview. I’m halfway finished listening and heard you guys talking about weeding out resumes via email. Jarod you suggestion of asking 10 questions with #1 and #10 being the same is great. Another trick I’ve learned, but haven’t had a chance to use yet, is to set up a gmail filter (or even use a separate account) to only let through or forward the emails with the correct subject line. that way you don’t actually need to weed through the incorrect ones, the only ones that get through are the ones you read. Then step two would be if you set up a separate gmail account, you can set an auto reply for only the emails that get through step 1, with further instructions to complete and another filter to send those correct emails through to your regular email inbox.
I hope that makes sense!
Great show and congratulations Tracy on an awesome job creating your practice.
Great stuff Aaron! So in the settings of a gmail address, you can set it so that the only emails you receive in your inbox have one specific subject (and no others can get delivered)?
Great question.
Yes, you can set a filter to put anything directly in the archive (or trash) and another filter so that any messages with a specific subject line or even in the body of the message to a specific folder/inbox/label/starred and directly in the inbox or forwarded to another email address. You can filter by sender, subject, specific words or phrases, etc. There are lots of options. Gmail is quite a powerful tool. Lots of possibilities.
Aaron!
Thanks for your compliments and comments!
I actually set up a gmail account just for receiving the emails from job applicants. However, I like the idea you are both sharing about asking questions (and subject line) to see if they are paying attention and truly interested.
Let’s keep the collaborative thinking and support alive! Love this!

Tracy,
This was an awesome interview. Thank you for taking the time to interview with Jarod. Jarod, thank you for interviewing Tracy Sher. I have been meaning to reach out to her about my women’s health integration in my private practice. I just started full-time in my cash based private practice after 21 years in out-patient orthopedics. I am already booked out almost 2 months in advance. It has been an awesome and eye opening experience. Jarod, you should definitely have Tracey Adler on your podcast. She has been one of my dry needling instructors and we have referred and treated patients back and forth in VA. She is an amazing therapist and instructor. I look forward to meeting both Tracy and Jarod in person some day.
Kind regards,
Heather Preast
Thanks so much, Heather. Please put Tracy Adler in contact with me. Would love to have her on the podcast. So exciting to hear how far out you are booked… Sounds like we should get you on the podcast too!
Tracy Sher, thanks so much for telling your story, it helps me know the struggles I am going through building up from the ground floor are common… and may mean I’m on the right track. Good insights on balancing and working within wheelhouse.
Jarod, thanks for all you do to host these interviews, You really do a ton to help build up this cashpay concept, which helps provide a VERY much needed service in our communities…which helps to bolster America’s economy, and small businesses are the majority of/backbone of our economy. So thanks for your part… and don’t forget to vote 😉
Thanks so much Jeff!
